Sometimes I like Baltimore. Especially after I had a good, busy, exciting weekend like I just did. Since I'm not going to Tokyo next spring, I'm looking into just going to another US school, changing it up a bit. I'd love to go home and go to Parsons and live in the city. That would be utterly ideal. We'll see, though. I'm living on campus next semester so I can peace out for the second half without a problem, it'll be good.

This was the altered states of mind and good films weekend.

Took this on the roof of the abandoned coat factory last night around sunset...

Haven't posted in forever. Things have been a nice balance of chill and crazy. Watching too much HGTV with Libby, that's about it.

Here's some work I did for Photo Imaging and Graphic Design 2 class, I took all the photos except the one in the Lost In Translation poster:

I like going to school for graphic design a lot.

i've been picking all my gifts out for about 3 years or so now
so nothing's ever a surprise but it's nice to get everything
beyond the valley of the dolls DVD, tom ford cologne, new eyeglasses
lots of sweaters, money, etc. my mom did surprise me with that
super soft memory-foam pad for my big full bed at school
it's going to be sooooo much nicer to sleep on that thing now.
it's only been a few days home and i'm already jaded, i don't know.
something more something more something more i need.
tokyo will be in a year and it'll be beyond fun.
i'm going to go into the city a lot in january.
i'm going to florida with libby during spring break to stay
in a gorgeous beach house. i have things to look forward to.
i don't want to say that someone in my life would make me happier,
but i can't help but thinking that's what i'd need.
cause everything else is just really fine, it couldn't be better, really.
soon, though. soon. they'll come along when i'm not looking...

i'm gonna go watch my tokyo travel guide dvd i got from the library
OH and i watched 'e.t.' all this morning and the lighting and cinematography in it is awe-inspiring, totally remembered why i watched it over and over as a kid. it's simply magical...

i neglect this thing too much, i feel bad
i've stopped regularly eating breakfast
and switched from apple to orange-cranberry juice
i've been watching a lot of woody allen movies
and started smoking more with libby again
finals aren't hurting me at all, it's been an easy/fun semester
next semester will be much more work i'm thinking:

monday: collage
tuesday: type II & homosexuality+civilization II
wednesday: graphic design II & art history + it's methods
thursday: photoimaging

so i have two double-class days in the middle of the week, bumpered by two single-studio days, off friday again. think i should be able to handle it. i'm really hoping the collage class rocks. THIS is the teacher's website/artwork. i l-o-v-e it.

I've never been more excited about a school-related thing. I'm most likely going to go to Tokyo for my Spring semeseter Junior year. It's been at the top of my list of places to go in the world for about the last 5 years of my life.

I haven't posted in so long, but I don't know what to say. November's been cool, nothing too special. I bought a bunch of bum plain sweashirts from village thrift and have been wearing them with flannels underneath. Last night me and Libby wanted to watch the 1996 Romeo+Juliet, so I rented it, Colin comes by, and it turns out the video store gave us EXTREME MEASURES, a 1996 crime/ER drama with Hugh Grant, Gene Hackman and SARAH JESSICA PARKER. We had to watch it of course. It was laughably entertaining. Then at like 10:30 we decided we needed to go to the diner, so we found Missy and Grace next door and we smoke then pack into Grace's VW and head to Paper Moon, and what comes on the fucking radio but "JUMP AROUND" by house of pain. It was straight out of a 90's movie. Us dancing in this tiny car with winter coats and scarves with the windows down. Amazing milkshakes and laughs at the diner, too.

Oh oh I started a blogger cause everyone and their mother has one now and it's just fun to post my favorite silly youtube videos and random pictures and occasionally artists I like, haha. So yeah here it is - Little Jay's Thoughts

recurring life-theme is constantly recurring. PART II

Nov. 3rd, 2008 | 08:21 pm

suuuuch a great halloween weekend in boston
i'm SO glad me and libby decided to ditch MICA-halloween this year
met all of riley's friends that i've been hearing about for so long
all were so wonderful and it was great to see virginia and jared again
carving pumpkins and smoking hookah in the central-park-equivalent of boston
on halloween afternoon was wonderful
party-harty at night was utterly fantastic. "let's dance" by bowie on vinyl sums it up.
and i iwon a 'challenge' and woke up 30 minutes outside of the city of boston
the guy was actually pretty fucking awesome, though. he was a glassblower!
stunning colored glass pieces, some looked like ice, they were just out of this world
he goes to school for architecture by force even though he wants to be an artist
his name is "mark boston" in my phone.
too bad he lives there and not here.
always, always too good to be true.
great chill saturday, lovely brunch and chillin at sam's at night.
typewriters from the 60's and angela lansbury and tales from the crypt.
incredible homemade breakfast on sunday, then flew home.

<333great halloween.

she could be a farmer in those clothes

I would've loved to have been a granola hippy stoner in Beverly Hills in the mid-90's.
This isn't because I just watched Clueless yesterday with Libby. As if.

This weekend's been fuuuun. Riley came in on Friday for the weekend and it was wonderful seeing him again, I hadn't seen we moved in in August. Biggie's Birthday on Friday night at Colin's was super fun and we had a nice rainy movie+hangover recovery day yesterday.

P.S. I've taken up drinking. [Background: After I realized that the reason I felt like utter shit after drinking 1 tiny drink the past 6 years is because my allergy medicine I was on 24/7 conflicted with it and now since I changed my medicine at end of August I've been ok.] It's mostly wine with Libby nightly, but now finally taking part in getting hammered at parties on the weekends. I'm basically 13 when it comes to actually getting 'drunk' and it's really funny. I fall, get overly friendly and do silly things like everyone else and it's hilarious to me. I'm not looking forward to puking and eventually blacking out and not remembering things, but whatevz, I'll be aight. Cheers.

been a while since i've written, whoa. what's happened?

all i can recall is late last week and this weekend:

+re-watching Annie Hall and remembering how incredible it is
+seeing some amazing new exhibits at MoMA with libby
+getting a huge Félix González-Torres poster from his piece in the contemporary galleries
+seeing Matthew Barney's petroleum jelly sculpture from Drawing Restraint 9
+Nan Goldin's "Ballad of Sexual Dependency" slideshow with music in a blackbox theater
+smoking a spliff with libby on a beautiful autumn day in the city in a seaside park on Chelsea Piers
+seeing Cecily Brown's show at Gagosian and falling in L-O-V-E. life-changing stuff.
+the Louise Bourgeois show at Cheim & Read. GIANT CEMENT SWEATER VAGINAS. outstanding.
+going all the way to the upper east side from Chelsea just to get CRUMBS cupcakes and vanilla sodas
+going to my first long island gay bar - BLANCHE'S - named after the best golden girl, of course.
+witnessing first-hand 70's-style gay cruising in the 21st century at a highway-side park+ride
+seeing the above in action was shocking, outrageous, intriguing, and revolting all at the same time.
+renting both the first season of Murder She Wrote and CUJO at the library at the same time

fun new york / LI times, now back to b-more i go.

boys on the radio

Oct. 12th, 2008 | 10:26 am

Whine-O Alert:
I've spent the end of two prime weekend nights in bed, alone, watching Iron Chef. I wouldn't mind that at all if I had someone to watch it with. I did had fun both nights, though, beforehand. Friends and drinks and laughs and good food, all great stuff. We went to Whole Foods on Friday and bought things for a Harvest Party - pumpkin pie, an actual pumpkin, candy apples, pasta, pretzels, all yumminess, it was fun and filling. I don't know how I can change it though, I've always been less-than social when it comes to going to parties, but I can't help it. I genuinely don't find any enjoyment in going to a crowded house party a or kegger or a bar that's filled with 97% people I don't know and/or don't ever want to know. But I guess that's how people meet other people. When it comes down to it, I might have to fess up to reality and go to the old Sex & The City standby of "he's just not that into you." Although the worst part is, he told me IS into me, but I'm beginning to think we crossed over into the 'just-friends' territory permanently and it sucks beyond belief.

I KNEW I'd find someone when I got back to Baltimore, but I should've been more specific...
someone who would watch Food Network with me at night and then stay over and have breakfast together in the morning.

So I woke up thinking it would be a boring old Saturday, but it's not even 6 o'clock and I've had a killer day. Woke up and went to Village Thrift and got speakers for my record player and some ridiculous things for the walls of the bathroom. Went to McDonalds [my first time in months] and got free food because Eric had coupons. Then we went to HampdenFest which was so great. I remember going last year around this time and had SO much fun. We planned on staying for an hour, and it turned into close to 4 hours. I got so much delicious vinyl [list below] and promotional wayfarer sunglasses [glow-in-the-dark frames, yellow lenses] with GHOSTBUSTERS2 logo down the side of the frames. Fan-fucking-tastic.

-R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts / Orange Crush (Live) LP [pressed on CLEAR ORANGE VINYL]

-Madonna - Everybody (Single)
-Diana Ross & The Supremes - Greatest Hits
-Carol King - Her Greatest Hits
-The Best of Blondie

those old songs from donnie darko

Aug. 24th, 2008 | 12:23 pm

time spend in riley's garage and free time at home yields new shiny things:

The top wood piece is about 4 feet long and 3 feet high, and we're using it as a tabletop for a makeshift table in Riley's garage. The bottom are 2 feet long each and I found them on the side of the road, someone was throwing them out. There's one more possible panel I might add if it turns out nicely. Riley's been working on re-painting/building a guitar he bought off eBay and it looks sick, he did all the work but I had some creative input on the painting/design, so I definitely want to post pictures of the final completed thing, it's so great.

The packing game has begun. My goal is to bring half of the useless shit I brought last year, and it's going nicely so far. Less than a week, so psyched.

"She's a Bad Mamma Jamma" and "Party & Bullshit (Ratatat Remix)" are the theme songs of the week

Aug. 16th, 2008 | 07:40 pm

So Riley and his bandmates Jarred and Mario and their friend EJ were staying over his empty house for a week to record some sweet Reel Karma music, so I'd been stopping by his place every night since then resulting in a plethora of adventures and fun, many baked out of our minds, with the boat and being outside and Planet Earth and driving to 7-11 and lightning and amaaaazing music and other friends stopping by and just goodness all around.

It was also my last week of work, so I have 2 solid weeks to chill and get ready for going back to Baltimore on the 30th. Libby's coming on the 26th and we're going to IKEA to get apartment stuff and enjoy the last few days on the island together. Should be joyous.

IT'S GONNA BE A GLORIOUS DAY

Aug. 10th, 2008 | 03:34 pm

Thursday night Jackie and me and Riley took the epic drive to Jersey and met Mary and Laura and their boyz at Laura's house there, and we just partied the whole night and it was wonderful. Next morning we headed out to All Points West and it was just so nice, the whole day. It was sunny and not too brutally hot most of the day, rained for an hour but we found an overhang to stay dry. We saw The Go! Team, New Pornographers, CSS, GirlTalk and Radiohead. ALL INCREDIBLE. GirlTalk was just a big fucking spectacular party, and Radiohead were magnificent. Sounded perfect and their light show was out of this world [pictures above and below that I found online that capture the night perfectly]. My favorite performance of the entire night was "Lucky". It came out of nowhere and I was caught off guard (because I love that song and didn't expect them to play it) and got really emotional for whatever reason. Everyone was singing along and it was just beautiful.

The following day me and Riley just chilled in the city because we were so exhausted and sore from the festival, but we managed to go downtown for some old Playboys and I got myself a cute little glass piece so I'll have one next year. It has yet to be named, though.
